Crowns & Bridges in San Luis Obispo, California

Crowns

Weak teeth pose a problem to your entire bite. They also tend not to look the way we might want. Dental crowns or "caps" are designed to strengthen and reshape these weak teeth by covering and protecting them. They can also be combined with a dental implant to replace a missing tooth entirely.

At Magnolia Dental, our crowns are made of porcelain or Zirconia (a ceramic, tooth-colored material), so they match your teeth. No one will even be able to tell!

What's the Process of Getting a Crown?

Dental crowns require two visits to our office. We will start by preparing your tooth which will involve removing any decay and shaping it to make room for the crown. We will then make an impression of your tooth which will be sent to a dental laboratory. At the end of your visit, you will receive a temporary crown so that your tooth will be protected until your next visit.

Once the crown arrives from the lab, you will come in for your second appointment. During this appointment, your crown will be placed and bonded over your tooth. Modern dental crowns can last a lifetime, but make sure to keep up with your regular dental checkups so that your dentist can keep an eye on them.

Bridges

Bridges are used to fill the gap created by missing teeth. If left alone, the other teeth can shift to compensate for the missing tooth. The end result might be a weaker jaw.

Dental bridges fit into the gap left by a missing tooth. Crowns over the remaining teeth on either side anchor the bridge into place. At Magnolia Dental, our bridges are made to match your other teeth, so they provide a cosmetic as well as functional repair.

The procedure for placing a dental bridge will take two visits. The first visit will involve making an impression of your teeth which will be sent to a dental laboratory.

Once your custom-made bridge and crowns are ready, your second appointment can be scheduled. During this second appointment, the crowns and bridge will be placed in your mouth to fill in the gap with natural-looking prosthetic teeth.

Taking Care of your Crowns and Bridges

When you have a crown or bridge, it's essential to care for them as you do your natural teeth. Be sure to brush twice a day and flossing once a day.
